Our first gig was marred by the general difficulty of getting things off the ground. Yet, we feel we pulled through like troopers (sans donuts). The Talk of the Town is a worthwhile hold in the wall on Washington St. in downtown Providence. Thursday's open mic is run by the exceedingly Terry Fallon. As such, the Talk is frequented by a wide spectrum of folks more or less centered on the avant garde, yet appreciative of all forms of music, whether it is refined and polished or representative of giving it the old college try. Despite some PA issues, we managed to get our first show under our belts and have been relieved ever since. We hope to soon continue our now-set-in-motion string of events with proverbial pomp and circumstance, along with a bit of panache.

Our second gig was an improvement over the first, since we had shaken off our initial jitters and could hear ourselves clearly. Now, if we could only play for mammals rather than crickets! We managed to add a Gang of Four song that went over like a lead balloon as we half-expected. However, we did garner one nascent fan who quoted us Melville: "Only the man who says 'no' is free." It is interesting to note that songs that are over 20 years old can still have a bewildering effect on people. We embrace such bewilderment.

Well, we played another gig. This time we gave an ear-full to the kind folks at the Narrows, whose open mic is mc-ed by Eric, who, as he shared with our audience, once took a course in existential phenomenology. This was a breakthrough: our first time playing in front of non-intoxicated individuals. The audience gave us a warm welcome desp ite the frigid cold. Poor Belanga almost froze his fingers off!
Thanks to our friend Marjorie, the 181 gig was indeed a transforming facet. We had the opportunity to play our entire set list of nine songs -- a first! And, the traveling distance was a small trifle for some very good truffles. Gallery 181 affords a pleasant atmosphere for existence, and a myriad of both local and non-local art, while its architecture concretely symbolizes the transformative experience as a stroll through the images and sounds it presents. We were proud to be displayed.
